WordCamp UK 2009 Thank you

Will I be going  well if I get chance to sit at the table with Mike Little again like I did last year  I might well consider it .He’s such a nice guy to talk to  so modest considering he co invented the thing . 

What is interesting tho is that I only found out by chance that WordCamp UK is happening .I am subscribed to the North wordpress UK  email  but generally find the emails incomprehensible  .Why they  don’t  use Word Press for the Information Dispersal I do not Know .Interesting point that I think Why don’t they ?? IF you are a WordPresser in the north and subscribed to the group  a comment would be welcome.

workcampuk wh0t a greenhand learned about SEO , beer & bots

Beign as I am  a new kid on the blog and unawre of any conspiracy theory in regards to the dark arts ,or not in cyberspace  I was totally absorbed by the revelations immparted by  our second speaker on SEO . we learned  with great clarity from  a well resourced presentaion that Google really do rule the world and not only is content king to  the traffic seeking & generating bots (theres no bots on me  judging by the total abstaince  of traffic on this blog !! )but  relevant and good content  is at the top of the pile particularly if its fresh and steamy  and not second hand or stored on someone elses shelves  .Then we came to the bots If you were thinking of ,well just dont even   try beating the bots by repition repitition repition did I say ” repition “? because the’re not havign it and say alwavs vin . This is all very reasurring  especially if you have shares in google. The  information that :-it not worth using …… on your bog because its useless was imparted    .. I wont say what   . . .  is becasue the presentation on journalism and blogging  delivered post luncheon told us you migt get sued for liable or defamation of product  and  unless you have a heavy weight team of lawyers like they (who pay the bots ) do you might find yourself in the . . . . so just accept the fact that  everyting in the whole www will soon be pointed by google ,in one way or another to the Betfair  site   and why not since they so generously sponserd the event from ther megre revenuse .

if you have a problem with that thers a bot waiting for you outside !!

All this is very re-assuring and enlightening  as any organisation tha has taken that well know word google and turned it into there owm logo and brand name must be quite clever .

Incidently if you where alert enough to notice what color the second letter ( or was it the second  o) was in the google logo on at 8:43 pm the Wednesday before the  workcampuk  pub quizz  then you could have notched up another point at the pub quiz . The quixmaster and his lovely assistant was well worth the trip to Birmingham alone. but it was deffinitely the case that the real ale bots had not be sent out prior to booking the pub for the aftercamp bonfire and said  quiz . A feature i hope will be remeded if there is a similar do after any 2009 workcampuk  .find bots that are assigned to search for the word “real ale” and ask them to give you an inside algrhythm on the matter .

Can WordPress and blogging in general change the world ?

That was one of the questions that was listed but not answered during the day on Saturday 19th at the ukwordcamp 

[If it was answered on the Sunday I missed it as I was not able to be there. ]

In my view what ever  people do its changes the world at some level so perhaps the question was ment really on the lines of  Can WordPress and blogging in general change the world for the better .

maybe many bloggers hope so and are convinced that they can do something  with their blog that will make the world better ,even if only for themselves .

But if we have bigger change in mind then bigger change needs bigger effort and bigger effort  means for those people with  limited ( little) resources  uniting those little people size  efforts together to make a bigger wack 

In the “Dummies Guide to Success” there is a lovely story about an early settler in America who built a barn with costly effort  only to discover that in winter it was prone to flooding . the next summer  he fashioned  handles ,one for every able person in the community and fixed them to the barn .

in the autumn he had a barn raising with a difference . His barn was picked up and  carried to higher ground !!    .A barn is impossible for one man to rescue but . . .do able with a whole community of people uniting their effort towards a common shared and valued objective.

Productivity and Self improvement literature ? I’ll stick up for it just a little .

The comment was made by one speaker during the talk on Journalism and blogging that after reading this type of material for a year what you learn is . . . to be productive just 

“find out what needs doing and do it “ 

that is true but it is a ititle more subtle than than that  because life in general is a little more nuanced than a one liner .

Doing things needs motivation .

However highly you are motivated to get things done you need a plan and to form a plan you need direction and for direction you need leadership and for there to be either motivation or leadership there needs to be belief .

So sure we’ll have to  K EEP I T  S IMPLE  S TUPID

because all we need to do is  find out what needs doing and just DO IT  but in oder to be in that productive place  there is a fair amount to untangle and gets sorted and get moving not just once but often   so the productivity writers have there place  particularly if they tell us how they managed to get sorted and get doing not jsut once but continuously and in varied circumstances ..

 up until now I have only kept a wordpress as a privat ejournal    but the Word Presscamp has given me confidence to  publish 

 

and really the quiz was fun but I do think maybe some wordpressfolk do need  to get out more ! 

  no really it was good to hang out with the wordpressfolk  thanks to MIKE and the others who let someone so ignorant  of computers and Birmingham share the table
