it can be done   see this  .The reason you might want to do this might include  ..

• you want to use it as a CMS system for all or a section of your “My Documents”  or a particular section or project that only you need  to see to start with .   
• you might want to keep a  just for me  private journal
• you might want the speed of working locally (tho if you use google gears under IE or fire fox it seems to cooks fairly fast if you have broardband {but safari dont do da  gears yet at tiem of writing  }
• you might want to keep a wordpress project  private until you have it cooked to just perfection as you want it to be
• you might want to develope &  experiment and make  lots of mistakes without pressuer to patch up immediatle   
• you might want something that you can use if you going to be without internet connection .. the  custody suite of your local nick ,in jail, or one of those really interesting places on earth where you cant get connected at all  unless you come across the SAS or somone else with satilite like the Taliban ( i wonder if my use of the word will get me noticed on some rather special Search Engines ??) or the BBC
