Ban the Bomb movement needed .. again

ee when I were a lad  .. in the sunny summers of the late sixites and early seventies an all was peace and  love man .There emerged an organisation known as ban the bomb or more grown uply as CND  Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament .

 

its central tennant among the yuff of the day was that Nuclear Bombs we just well stupid man  ( bearing in mind that the acronim for the Miltitary Stategy for using the things was MAD  Mutally Assured Distruction, remember the comic anyone ? )

From the 60 -000s the  orgaisation has played a part in getting us where we are at present in our thinking about Nuclear Weapons .However  expidient politically and mititary they were or were not depending on you view CND continually reminded us that they had and still have something about them that any right thinking person even if they, and particularly if they hold *the trigger,  must acknowledge and agree as being in some degree just plain mad .

When watching listening to or reading the news every day there is a bombing of civilians going about there ordinary business .This  week it has occurred in India ,Palistine ,Turkey and as we now percieve as normal  and as usual in Iraq  and Afganistan.

Is it not the case that these bombings  are  just plain mad for if someone is going about  daily civil business buying food going to work on a bus they are no threat to an enemy or making war

Woudn’t be refresing and give us some hope if  a new ban the bomb movement  emerged particularly among the  young  to continually be saying  that bombing in this way whoever you are ,what ever you are after is just plain mad .  so let pray God, someone many ones ;get up and say “Ban the Bomb  

* I once met a guy who in the  seventies as a young man  was a holder of  one of the two  keys needed   to authorise  letting the real  batlefield things off during Nato exercises if necessary should the Russians fancy having a go . what amused him in reflection but infuriated hinm at the time was  that the American Key had to be driven across the  coutry side in germany  in a jeep !!  .  His comment was “4 minute warning my arse if they got a stuck in the mud ,had  a puncture or got shelled it might take hours to get the keys together at Control and Command .
